What's In a Name

I've always been interested in my name. It's not very common and I don't meet many people who share it with me. It has a unique pronunciation and spelling and I've often wondered about the meaning behind my name. So I looked up my name on an online database that gives name origins and found that my name is both Hebrew and Hispanic. The Hebrew meaning is gift from God! I love that! It makes me know that God is always close by and that He treasures and loves me (I would still know that EVEN if Juana wasn't my name :) ). In Spanish, Juana is a variation of John (feminine), Joan, or Jane. Personally, I like the English translation Lady John :), it sounds very regal!

I encourage you to look up your name on a name database...just look up "name meanings" on google. I've looked up my parents', sister's, and other family/friend's names and have found that their names suit them perfectly! :) Look up yours and post their meanings, I'd love to hear them :)

Have a blessed day!

Hi Juana. I am a firm believer in the power of names. In the Old Testament, what you named your child basically determined his destiny. Jesus then even goes as far as to change some of his disciples names (Simon to Peter etc.), and Revelation 2:17 describes how the Lord gives us a white stone with a new name on it (The white stone was used in those days as either an invitation to a party or you would give your significant other a white stone with the pet name you use for him as an intimate gift...how intimate is our Father with us here as he gives us a new name only we know!)

We must be careful in naming our children. What you name an object or person determines what that thing will become. If I have a pot but I call it a mug, it will be a mug and I will drink my coffee out of it.

On that note, my name, Cassandra, means "lover of men" (Thanks Mom! haha). Throughout my life that has been an incredible weakness with me. In every relationship I've been in I've put my all into it to make sure the man feels loved and is taken care of. This will be an incredible strength once I do find my husband (and many people have told me I will make an amazing wife one day..sweet!), but it is also a weakness of mine and has been my so called "signature sin" for most of my life - always putting men in front of God.

Cassandra was also a Greek prophetess who was cursed because she didn't accept the advances of one of the gods. This god (I forget who) cursed her with the ability to prophecy but no one would ever believe her (like predict the Trojan War). Again, so many times in my life I have found myself with strong gut feelings about things but no one has believed me! Sigh.

Cassandra,

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the meaning of your name! Before, I had never relaized how our names can affect us and how they subtly (and sometimes not) influence our lives.

I think you have a beautiful name! I think that "lover of men" could also come in handy when you are using the gifts that God has given you. You'll have a heart to serve others in order to please the Lord :)

Thanks for posting your comment! :)
