Christmas Time!

It's that time of year again! Wow, the year just breezes by, but I'm so glad that God gives us this wonderful time to celebrate. We should celebrate Christ's birth ALL year long and always remember the sacrifice that He made for us. How special does that make us feel? That God gave his one and only Son to die on the cross for us that we may live? Wooooooo! God loves us sooooo much! Sometimes, we get so wrapped in presents and whose party we are going to, but we should always remember that Jesus is the Reason for the Season. So as we approach Christmas, we need to just take time to thank God for our blessings! I pray that you all have a safe and blessed Christmas! Have a blessed day!

Holiday Season

Well Hello! I haven't written a post in a couple of months. I am dedicating this post to the Reason for the Holiday Season!

Every year, I wait for Halloween to pass so that I can enter the Holiday Season! Thanksgiving is only a few days away and Christmas is in about a month. The year goes by so fast, but I relish these wonderful times with my family. In the summer months, you can play outside, but the cold winter months force you (for the most part) to stay in the house with your family. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love to spend time making my annual peppermint sugar cookies. My sister likes helping me bake them, even though she won't eat them :) Picking the Christmas tree and decorating it is one of the best things about the Holidays. I even like helping choose the turkey. I absolutely LOVE the reason that we celebrate during this time of year: Jesus! Some people get hyped up over the amount of gifts that are given or that kids believe in Santa. I say, "Just get over it!" As long as Jesus is the ultimate reason for the Holiday Season, I don't think it should be an issue over "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas". I say "Merry Christmas" because I believe it! I give gifts because I love to spread joy to my friends and family. I get together with my family because that's what God wants us to do.

Now, go drink some Egg Nog and watch a Christmas movie; the Holiday Season is almost here!

Have a blessed day!

Back to School and Election Time

Wow! Summer went so fast, but it was so fun! Let's get updated again, just in case you haven't read my blog before. I'm 19 years old (yay for summer birthdays!) and I am a student at Regent University. My major is English/Journalism. I love loving God and my family, dancing, laughing, and eating :) I recently got a Facebook page, so look me up!

As I get back into school mode, it's easy to see why I love summer so much, but also why I love school. Never cease to learn! I just pray to God for guidance and peace as my life transitions a bit every day. This coming 2008 presidential election is the first one in which I get to vote! Yippee! I'm very excited to voice my opinion that will help shape the country. No matter who wins the election, it will be one that goes down in history because either the first black male will win the presidency or the first woman will be the vice president. I definitely think that McCain and Palin are a good match for running mates.

I pray that all who are back to school and who are voting in the election that God will give you wisdom. Have a blessed day.

Friendship Bread

Last Christmas, a friend of my family gave us a starter for Amish Friendship Bread. You have to let the starter ferment in a plastic bag. Then, after 10 days you can mix the starter with sugar, flour, raisins, and all of that good stuff. You then bake the bread. I made the bread with low expectations because I had never made bread before and I wasn't sure if I had made it correctly. Boy, was I wrong! The bread was MOIST and SUGARY and DELICIOUS! And it stayed that way for at least a week; it didn't get hard or gross after a couple of days like some pastries. I got a lot of complements on the bread, but the best thing was getting to eat something soooo good that I had actually made. Making the bread isn't hard at all, it's actually kinda fun! Posted are two links to show you how to make the starter and then the bread itself. Give it a try, it's a great treat! And making it showed me to have faith in all things that I do to because "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). Send me a note if you make the bread, I'd love to know how it came out and how you liked it. Pass the recipe on to friends and family. Have a blessed day.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I recently saw the new Indiana Jones movies. I was really excited to see it even though I had not seen the previous ones before. So I watched the three movie marathon to get caught up on them. I really enjoyed them. Each movie was different and special and introduced new, fun characters. "Crystal Skull" did the same thing. Harrison Ford and Karen Allen are just as cool as they were two decades ago. Ford plays that kind of character who you wouldn't mind saving you from rolling boulders and temples of doom. Shia Lebouf's character was really interesting and funny. Watching the movie was a great way to escape the Spring heat and get lost "movieland" for a while. My recommendation: see the movie in theaters if you liked the other Indiana Jones movies. The special effects and awesome scenes are meant to be seen on the big screen! Have a blessed day.

Prince Caspian

I saw The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian when it came out on Friday. It was so good! I couldn't say that it was better than the first because I love that one so much. But the additional characters were great. The kids are growing up well and didn't seem different from their characters in the first movie. The action scenes and special effects were better than ever. I hope that Voyage of the Dawn Treader is just as good. Have a blessed day.

Yay, Summer's Here!

So I just finished classes and I am ready to start summer! It's already warm in Cali and I can't wait to go swimming and have barbecues. My birthday is in June, my sister's is in July, and my mom's is in August, so we have a full summer of partying! I'm ready to relax and recharge for next semester. I'll be posting all summer. Hopefully, I'll go to some cool places and can share my pictures. Good luck, everyone, on your summer courses (if you are taking them) and have some fun in the sun! Have a blessed day.

Bowling

Last month my cousins had a bowling birthday party. I'm not an expert bowler, but I had so much fun! It is fun anytime of day because you can escape the hot or cold weather and challenge your friends and family to a game. Here are some pictures :) The first one is of my adorable cousins and the other is of me, my mom, and my cousin. Have a blessed day.

Upcoming Movies!!!!

I am very excited for two new movies coming out this Spring. I can't wait for Indiana Jones! It looks so cool. The actor Shia LeBeouf, from last year's Transformers, is playing in it. I think that he has good comedic skills and will add something extra to this movie series. Another movie that I can't wait for is... wait for it.... :) The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian! Yay! I loved the first Narnia movie. The kids who play the Pevensies are wonderful. I am enchanted with each of them. Though Edmund does get on my nerves. I am very glad that Christians can enjoy this movie because of its Christian themes, but also because it has great special effects, great acting, great scenery, I could go on and on! I also found out that there will be another Narnia after this one. I think that my love grows for this movie even as I get older! Enjoy these trailers (below) for both movies! Tell me what you think and other movies you'd like to see this summer. Have a blessed day.

Happy Easter!

HAPPY EASTER! It feels so nice to just remember this weekend that Jesus died for our sins and that He has RISEN! Our problems suddenly don't feel as bad when we think of Jesus and our Father. Have a blessed day.

New Session

Wow, Spring Break went fast! The break was needed. I realized, though, that I always need God to keep me strong. I can't wait for Summer Break, but knowing that God is always there keeps me strong all of the time. The devotionals that we get through Regent email are really encouraging and can lift your spirits when you are down. I encourage you to read them and take in all of the information. Dwell on the scriptures and you will usually find that they apply somehow to a situation that you are dealing with. Have a blessed day.

Finding Peace

I know that sometimes, even as a Christian, I worry more about what other people think than what God thinks. I realized that my thinking was wrong in that everyone else has to be happy for me to be happy, but in fact I only have to please God. I discovered a Christian group called Addison Road on itunes one day. They have a song called "All That Matters" and it really opens your mind to how we should not try to please everyone. Look them up on itunes, they're really good. Here are some of the lyrics:

I may never be the one that gets a second glance, I may never be the one they call the prettiest, but that’s alright with me,
And maybe I don’t follow every crazy passion, spend all my time trying to get a good reaction But that’s ok with me.
This world is like a trampoline, High and low no in between, Jumping at the chance to please Everyone but that’s not me, Cause all that matters is All that matters is I know your love has set me free And that’s all that matters to me.
Some people tell me to step out and do my own thing And others say I got to blend in just to be the same And stop being me But this shallow world is no longer what I’m made of I’ve been changed by grace I’ve been saved by love What more do I need.
My life comes from the One Who made the stars and brought the sun He loves me more than these So I don’t need another identity.

Have a blessed day.

My Trip to Texas

My family and I recently visited Texas and were able to visit family. We stayed in Sugarland, but saw also Houston (but I think Sugarland is just a suburb of Houston). It was a lot of fun. I had only been to Texas once and didn't see that much, so it was nice to see more of it. We went to the Kemah Boardwalk a couple days after it had been thundering and storming. The weather near Galveston Bay, which I had wanted to visit for a long time, was nice, too. When you park off of the street, you are right next to the water. Here are some pictures from the trip. The picture with a lot of people is of my extended family. This was the first time that I had met my mom's aunt and cousins. I met my 2nd and 3rd cousins. I'm in the pink shirt. Check out that rollercoaster! My mom, sister, and I rode it. It was a lot of fun! The pictures by the water are at Kemah. Have a blessed day.

A Great Tool

I've been so busy with my new classes and recently started playing basketball. It seems like so many new things are happening and I get to experience them because of God's loving kindness. Reading new books, learning new things, and having fun with those that I love are just a few things that are happening right now. Even though I am a distance student at Regent, I don't feel like one. There is just so much connection with students during class. I discovered a tool called Pronto that really helps me connect with other students. I downloaded Pronto and it connects me with other classmates, so that when I have a question or want to chat, I can easily contact them. It is faster and easier than email (even though I still love email) and is good for dropping in a quick note to other students. It really gives me a sense of being in a class with other students. Have a blessed day.
