Lie to Me

I discovered the show Lie to Me last December when I had to write a paper on it for my Nonverbal Communication class. Yes, that's right...I got hooked on a tv show because of school :) So I started watching Lie to Me that same month as episodes aired on tv, but I caught the very end of the season. Juuuuuust great. Now I'm waiting patiently for the new season to come on in June. Yippppeeee! Here's a little about the show...a guy named Cal Lightman is the head of a group that uses nonverbal indicators in the human body to determine if someone is lying or not. This is helpful in solving investigations, knowing if someone cheated you, or just busting someone in a white lie. Tim Roth plays the lead character and he is great! He is so outspoken and brash; I can never tell what he's going to do next! The show is also a great learning tool for someone who is interested in communication like me! I walk away from the show knowing more and more about nonverbal communication. I think Lie to Me is the best show on tv right now! Look it up on Hulu or catch the new season coming on Fox in June. I think you'll be surprised at how much you like it :)

Things that I did this weekend

1. Remeber my lovely, wonderful, amazing dog Sunny. She died unexpectedly last week. As much as I was sad about her passing, I can't help but smile and laugh as I remember our fun times together. If all dogs go to heaven, I know she'll be right there waiting to let me pet her fuzzy head :) I love you, Sunny!

2. Have a movie night with my friends. We watched the Stepfather, which was pretty creepy. And we brought chips, soda, and ice cream :)

3. Watched The Skeleton Key several times. I love this movie! That whole cajun/creole New Orleans style appeals to me. And it is a pretty suspenseful movie!

4. Paint my toenails orange to ring in the lovely warm weather.

5. Have a "baby" reunion with all of the babies in my church nursery. I hadn't seen my babies in a while (maybe they were on vacation!) but they all decided to come back today! It was the whole gang today, chillin' in the nursery :)

6. Go to a festival. It was blazing hot, but I had fun. I got to see my friend perform on stage and I bought a Marilyn Monroe magnet.

7. Didn't care about what I ate all weekend. I ate pretty much a whole pag of chips (the family size) by myself :) And lots of candy too!

Blessings!

Allowing Myself to Relax

So finals have had me in all in a tizzy, rushing about trying to finish papers and quizzes. Yesterday was intense! I woke up and started school right away, then worked on school for the rest of the day. Just when I thought I was finished and could sit down to relax, I decided to give my mom a call. She was at a meeting and wouldn't be home in time to cook dinner, so I offered to make my special pasta dish. Right as I am getting ready to make dinner, I was called to tutor unexpectedly. Could I handle all of this?! Well, I sure tried! Luckily, the little boy lives a few doors down and his sister was able to bring him to my house. I was able to tutor and get dinner finished before my mom came home. Then, before we could eat, we had to take my dog, Sunny, to the vet. She's been experiencing pain in her back legs and has cloudiness in her eyes. I was scared and freaking out! Thank God that her problem isn't too too too serious! We have to watch her weight and give her medication to relieve the problem in her legs and eyes. So, we got back home, ate dinner, and relaxed. But once again, I couldn't help myself from doing schoolwork, so I grabbed my computer and worked while watching tv. It seemed to be such a stressful day! However, the morning was actually nice. I sat in bed and did schoolwork while eating breakfast. And you might say, "Schoolwork! That's not relaxing!" But it was. I was glad to have some quiet time to myself :) And because I got so much schoolwork done yesterday, I had time to blog today! Below are some pictures of my recent adventures! Blessings!

My breakfast-and-schoolwork-in-bed set up :) All I need is my book of literature, coffee, fruity pound cake, and my laptop :)

My Hair Story

I used to have a love/hate relationship with my hair. "Why can't I have straight hair like the other girls, mommy?" I would ask. My hair has always been super curly, super thick, and super big, but before I learned to control the...ahem..frizz, I complained and struggled with it. Recently, though, I've found that I absolutely love my hair! It's dark and curly and big! Here are just a few ways that I've learn to wear my hair :)

Curly and big

Or perhaps with a large pouf

...or a really really big pouf

Pulled into an up-do

Or long and wavy
Embrace what the Lord has blessed you with! You'll find that you feel more beautiful than ever before! Blessings!

A Late-Night Update

I thought I'd give you all an update of the goings-on in my life. So, you may ask, what are you up to? Well, I answer, school, work, family/friend life, and all of the craziness I can squeeze into it! At the moment, I'm brushing my teeth (and typing...that's how cool I am). I had a long day that started out with me reading "Death of a Salesman". Then, I worked on school, tutored, ate dinner, ate dessert, and hung out with my sister. It was quite fun! On Saturday, I babysat my little friend "A" and we took a trip to the park, which was fun. Oh, yeah! Only three more weeks until Summer Break! Woot Woot! Which means I'm going to have to create my "Summer To-Do List"! I'm pretty excited about that! It feels weird to be in April and I'm already thinking about summer, but I am okay with that :) I can't wait until the weather warms up! So those are a few of the things going on right now...I'm sure I'll blog about more later :) Shoot...I'm craving a bowl of cereal now...but I brushed my teeth already...

Blessings!

Falling Down the Rabbit Hole

There are some times when I just want to get lost. Not lost in the sense of no direction or confusion, but lost in an adventure. It reminds me of Alice in Alice in Wonderland. She was in need of an adventure and got one when she fell down the rabbit hole in Wonderland. She encountered creatures and people that were so strange yet so relatable. I love going to the beach, laying in the sand, closing my eyes, listening to the waves, and dreaming. Then, I will walk on the beach and enjoy the amazing scenery. It's awesome! There are always new sights and sounds and people to look at...I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole. Walking in the snow, at the park, even laying upside down on the couch to see my living room in a new view feels like my rabbit hole. I just crave that sense of adventure and wildness that we don't always see. Carrying around a book of poems or literature with me is awesome. I can always "get lost" within its pages. Playing hide and seek with my dog is always fun because I imagine that she is a talking giant animal who I have to hide from. Who says that we can't play pretend after we've become adults? Who says that we can't imagine the impossible? Why shouldn't we?

What are your "falling down the rabbit hole" moments?

Blessings!

The Princess and the Frog

When I heard that Disney was releasing a 2-D animated movie, I was pretty excited. I really enjoy their CG movies, but they were getting tired and redundant. Where were the old-style, musical type Disney films? Well, we got one with The Princess and the Frog. I loved the familiarity of an American Princess from New Orleans. The main character, Tiana, is hardworking and dreams big! (I loved the Prince, too! He was arrogant and rash, but he's awesome - he goes through a transformation during the movie, which makes his early attributes forgettable) The movie was very funny as well! I laughed quite heartily during many parts :) I recommend this movie to all people. It's great!

How to Make a Yummy Cup of Chai Tea (Without Spending $4 for it at the Cafes)

Ok, I'll admit it...I enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea from Starbucks or The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. But I HATE, absolutely HATE spending my hard earned cash on the tiniest cup. So I've learned to make great tasting drinks at home so I can enjoy my coffee/tea without spending too much money. (Then when I do splurge at Starbucks or CB & T, I don't feel as bad). During the holidays, I bought peppermint hot cocoa from Walmart for about 5 dollars a tin (10 oz). I added about 2 tablespoons to my coffee to make peppermint mochas. Recently, I've been drinking tea (peppermint tea, chamomile, green tea), but the watery teas were becoming bland to me. So I picked up some chai tea at the store and added water to that, but it was still bland. So I created my own recipe that ended up tasting just like chai tea from the cafes. Here's my recipe:

1 tea bag of chai tea (I use Bigelow's Vanilla Chai)
8 oz. of milk (or enough to fill your mug)
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Vanilla Extract
Sugar

Step 1: Heat the milk...I boil it in a saucepan.
Step 2: Once the milk is hot, turn down the heat and place the tea bag in the milk, stir.
Step 3: Add 2 tablespoons of sugar, a sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a drop of vanilla extract, stir.
Step 4: Stir well and pour into mug

Enjoy! Be warned that I like my tea sweet which is why I added sugar, plus the spices. It's yummmmmy! :) Blessings!

It's really yummy!

Seee?? It makes me smile! :)

Some Thoughts

A lot of ideas have been swirling around my head lately (well, they usually are...maybe they're just more crazy then usual). I've really been craving the Friendship bread that I have made a couple times before. It's delicious! It's just that it takes so long to make...like 10 days long. The starter takes about 10 days to prepare, plus the actual preparation of the bread. But it's sweet and yummy! So I'll probably make some soon. Perhaps, I'll make that my "start-of-summer" project in a month or so. I'll take pictures and post them!

Another idea that I have been formulating is cutting my hair drastically and coloring it. Now, by cutting it drastically, I don't mean cutting it waaaaay short. I just want a cute "style" since I usually only wearing my hair long and curly. And I want a cool color like soft pink highlights, but nothing too crazy.

I also finished all of the movies in my Marilyn Monroe dvd set that my mom got me for Christmas. I really enjoyed All About Eve. Monroe's role in it isn't big, but I enjoyed Bette Davis. It was a good movie that I recommend!

I have to finish a book that I got for Christmas called "Splendor". I want to see how it ends! But school reading comes first which is why I haven't finished it yet.

So those are my thoughts for today :) Blessings!
